Qatar says it hopes for a truce agreement “very soon” between Israel and Hamas – rts.ch

– Qatar, mediator country between Israel and Hamas, said Tuesday that the main obstacles to a truce agreement in the Gaza Strip had been resolved during the latest discussions in Doha. He said the discussions were at the “final stage” and hoped to reach an agreement “very soon”.

– According to sources close to the matter and Israeli media, a first step could consist of the release of 33 Israeli hostages, in exchange for around 1,000 Palestinian prisoners, according to Palestinian sources.

– At the start of the week, Benjamin Netanyahu told Joe Biden of “progress” towards an agreement on the hostages in Gaza and the American president had affirmed that a truce agreement was “on the verge” of being concluded.

– In Lebanon, while the Israeli army continues its withdrawal from the south of the country, Parliament has appointed Nawaf Salam, the current president of the International Court of Justice, to the post of Prime Minister.
