Israa, Ludivine, Amy, Valentine, Karima, five high school students already full of eloquence

Organized since 2009 by the Dépêche Foundation, in partnership with the Region and the rectorates of and , the Regional Eloquence Competition gives the floor to high school students on philosophical and/or civic subjects, questions of law and values. This year, it is the theme of humanity which inspired the region’s high school students, five of whom will compete this January 13 in .

Israa, Ludivine, Amy, Valentine, Karima. Five high school girls took turns this Monday, January 13 in the morning on the stage of the multipurpose room of the Jean-Lurçat high school in Perpignan. Five representatives of Catalan, Aude and Andorran establishments spoke in front of around a hundred of their comrades. But also in front of the teachers who accompanied them in the preparation of their pleading. A unique exercise for these second and first year students, unique and as ambitious as it is perilous. But carried out without any false note in front of the jury of the day composed of two inspectors from National Education, three members of the Dépêche Foundation and a representative of the Montpellier rectorate.

5 minutes of humanity

Time required for exercise: 5 minutes. Subject imposed: humanity. The pleadings won over the public and revealed real speaking talents for Israa Naffi from the Charles-Renouvier high school in Prades, Ludivine Duchemin from the Maillol high school in Perpignan, Amy Do Nacimineto from the Comte de Foix high school in Andorra la Vella and Karima. Byhi from the Jean-Lurçat high school in Perpignan. They all gave their version of humanity, centered on a brotherhood to be reconquered or protected.

Sylvie Olive, teacher at the Maillol high school in Perpignan, had, with her colleague Anne Sicard, prepared her student Ludivine Duchemin for the exercise. “I watched this competition with envy» she confided at the end of the performances. But getting started is not easy, we succeeded, we managed to unite a collective around this humanity, the speakers commanded our admiration because they have made enormous progress. Choosing one was heartbreaking, it was the class that voted. ».

At 18, Karima Byhi represented the Jean-Lurçat high school in Perpignan. During her first professional baccalaureate in commerce, and while she wanted to change direction towards a law degree, the practice of advocacy had tempted her for a long time. “I’m not very shy and I wanted to practice, I found it an interesting experience.” A small challenge met with flying colors under the proud gaze of her main teacher who prepared her for these five intense minutes. “She showed herself to be invested and she came during her free time to prepare the exercise, underlines Madame Bonnefille. She was very serious.. And very applauded, like the four other competitors of the day. The jury, after deliberation, will announce on January 23 the name of the young girl who will join the final of the 2025 regional eloquence competition, in , on February 7. Three prizes and a special jury prize will then be awarded.
