Geography and climate

Morocco is a Maghreb country located in the northwest of Africa. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Strait of Gibraltar and the Mediterranean Sea. Deserts, plains and mainly mountains make up this territory of 446,550 square km which brings together almost 34 million Moroccans. In addition to the desert and dry Saharan climate, Morocco has an Atlantic climate like in Casablanca and a Mediterranean climate like in Al Hoceima.

History and administration

Morocco was occupied for a long time by the Capsians, ancestors of the modern Berbers, then by Phoenician traders from the 11th century BC. The Arabs arrived in Morocco in 649 and converted the Berbers to Islam. This constitutional monarchy is today the only African country not to be part of the African Union, but has been trying since 1987 to join the European Union.
