Disappointed by his players after the defeat against FC Barcelona in the final of the Spanish Super Cup (5-2) on Sunday, Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti nevertheless praised the performance of Kylian Mbappé, first scorer of the match.
“Anything to remember from this match? No, we’re not going to keep anything apart from the match that Mbappé had. He had a great match, he did some very good actions, he scored. For the rest, we must forget and look forward”declared Ancelotti at a press conference.
“We have to face reality: we didn’t defend well, they scored very easily and we weren’t able to work collectively or individually because we lost a lot of duels, but that’s football .
We are sad and disappointed and we share the sadness of our supporters, but we must look to the future because there are other challenges ahead. We need to get back on track”explained the Italian technician.
“We can lose matches, but not in the way we played in the first half (…) Our match was not good from the first minute.
I thought that after the exclusion of Szczesny we would be able to come back, but even with numerical superiority we did not manage to find solutions”he regretted.

Catalan coach Hansi Flick, for whom this is not the first title since his arrival last summer, praised “the great match” achieved by his players:
