Benjamin Netanyahu discussed with Joe Biden “progress” towards an agreement on hostages in Gaza

The Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, discussed on Sunday January 12 with the American President, Joe Biden, the “progress” in negotiations to reach an agreement on the release of hostages held in the Gaza Strip. “The Prime Minister discussed with the US President the progress in the negotiations for the release of our hostages and briefed him on the mandate he gave to the negotiating team in Doha, aimed at advancing the release of the hostages “according to a press release from his office.

This exchange comes the day after the announcement by Benjamin Netanyahu’s office of the sending of a delegation of senior officials to participate in the talks being held in Doha, Qatar. The Prime Minister’s Office confirmed to AFP on Sunday that the Israeli delegation, notably composed of the head of foreign intelligence and that of internal intelligence, had arrived in Doha. Indirect negotiations between Israel and Hamas resumed last weekend in Qatar, but the Israeli side was not represented by senior officials at the time.

In the run-up to Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, Joe Biden said on Thursday that “real progress” in the negotiations. For his part, the Republican recently promised “hell” to the region if the hostages were not released before his return to power.
