Gard: a jogger between life and death after being attacked with a knife by a man in a park

It is a tragedy which took place in Gard this Saturday January 11, A woman in her forties was attacked in Vergèze, near Nîmes. The mother was jogging on the town’s fitness trail when she was stabbed. According to our colleagues from France 3 Occitanie, present in Vergèze, the jogger received several stab wounds in the back and throat. Emergency hospitalized, the victim still finds himself between life and death. “The victim’s condition is currently very serious, very reserved,” declared Cécile Gensac, the public prosecutor of the Nîmes judicial court.

For the moment, the identity of the attacker remains unknown: “I have opened an investigation into attempted intentional homicide. This investigation is being carried out by gendarmes from the Gard gendarmerie group and the Nîmes research section to try to find a person who is presented as being the attacker, who would be a unique person: a man on whom we have no at the moment no information to give,” she added.

“It’s a complex area”

This attack plunged the village of Vergèze into horror. Numerous gendarmes were mobilized to try to find the perpetrator of the act. “It’s a complex area because we are both in an urban and wooded area. All means are being implemented with the hope of quickly finding the perpetrator,” said Lieutenant-Colonel Eric Painset, second in command of the Gard gendarmerie group.
