Friday evening, after the meeting, many had the same impression. That of having already seen this episode and already knowing the reactions that will result from it. The Dacquois scenario is a scenario that recurs a little too often on the Brive side. For the future, this is really starting to worry.
As a resumption match and launch match for the return phase, it was a great match between Dax (6th) and Brive (2nd). Between two ambitious teams, there is a way to see a great match even if the weather is not really nice. In any case, on paper, it’s a bit of a clash of styles. The question now is who will win the tactical battle.
The start of the match turned to the advantage of the Dacquois. They mastered the elements better and applied their game plan perfectly. Two close attempts gave Dax a comfortable lead for the future. Obviously, on the benches, the reactions are not necessarily the same.
Brive cannot put together any game. There is far too much waste and we feel players lost and not in the match. After 40 minutes, Dax logically leads at the break. Brive commits too many technical errors to be able to worry this Dax team, always so surprising even when you expect it.
The rain didn’t stop falling but the pace dropped after the break. Despite everything, Brive fails to worry the Dacquois. Dacquois close to scoring an 80-meter try which would have closed the match. Finally, without trembling, Dax masters the encounter.
The CAB problem: creating clear opportunities. Without a testing opportunity, it’s difficult to win the match. So, we have to feed on crumbs to eat away at the score gap. Curwin Bosch continues the penalties and the gap is 8 points. With less than a quarter of an hour to go, there is always hope even if it would be against the flow of the game.
Finally, hope will die a few minutes later with Taniela Sadrugu’s red card. In search of this try, Dax will register the bonus try at the very end of the match, just before the siren. A completely logical improved victory, which does not suffer from any possible dispute. In Brive, the scenario repeats itself again and again. Like a good old refrain.
Curwin Bosch can only see the damage. There is a lot of frustration and the Brivist opener hopes that the team will draw the consequences so as not to relive a similar outcome in another away match.
It’s really frustrating, I can imagine how frustrating it was for our fans to see us play last night. We must take responsibility for this failure, for the indiscipline. It’s super important to resolve this now if we want to be in the Top 14 next season. Last night we were far from our standards.
Pierre-Henry Broncan is obviously very angry with his team’s performance. Everything went wrong, whether it was tactics, technique, or involvement. A (new) away match to forget against a top 6 team.
Jérôme Thion can only emphasize the very good match of Dax who mastered his subject throughout the gamewithout finding yourself put in danger by the CAB. On the other hand, Brive puts out a performance which is cause for concern.
After what happened last season, Dax can no longer be considered a surprise. But if further confirmation was needed, here it is! In less than ideal playing conditions, Dax has not forgotten his playing principles. The Dacquois followed the instructions of the staff to the rule and even if the offensive bonus was not the initial objective, it rewards the performance of the entire team.
Getting around Dax is not an easy thing. Many bite the dust at the Maurice Boyau stadium. Last season, Brive learned a lesson. In very different conditions, the sanction is the same for the CAB. While the Dacquois apply their game plan and do not hesitate to play despite the rain, the Brive players are lost and we wonder what the team’s game plan was on Friday evening. Once again, Brive wanted to have ambitions for an away match and once again, it’s a big disappointment. You won’t have to miss the reception in Nevers.
