Read in Bourianethe Saint-Cirq-Souillaguet book fairwas, for his 4e edition, an undeniable popular success.

When culture spreads projects

This annual festival, organized by the Arcuby association in partnership with the municipality of Saint-Cirq-Souillaguet and the Quercy-Bouriane Community of Communes (CCQB)created, around the Book and Reading, a irreversible dynamic of which the creation of an intercommunal library would be the symbol. There is no shortage of arguments.

For several years, and particularly since Covid, new families and in particular families whose children are in school or will be in school soon, have settled permanently in the town. Several residents of Saint-Cirq-Souillaguet have been members of the Gourdon intercommunal library (BIG) and some of them, who can no longer travel, have access to facilities for home delivery. In short, the potential members are real and deserve to be promoted.

This intercommunal library, of which here are the characteristics, will be the subject, during the month of January 2025of a detailed presentation among residents. This new municipal cultural tool will be managed by volunteers trained in documentation and information techniques. It will be open to the public one or two half-days per week from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Connected to the CCQB public reading network, readers will then have access to all the libraries as well as the online catalog from the Lot media library.

The works are loaned by the Prêt du Lot library. The library will also have the works presented at the book fair.

The costs inherent in equipping this library are, by agreement, covered by the CCQB and the Department of the Lot. Only the purchase of a computer remains the responsibility of the municipality.

Its location remains to be defined. Several sites, depending on their ease of access, have been listed.

The municipality of Saint-Cirq-Souillaguet wanted to involve residents in the management of this cultural project, which undeniably contributes to the influence of the municipality. This approach is, it seems, a first for this small but very active commune of Bouriane in which culture is a socially structuring element.
