After a successful first part of the season, FC Annecy begins its first home match of 2025 this Friday, January 10, against EA Guingamp. The Haute-Savoie club, fifth in the ranking, hopes to continue its momentum with seven home victories already this season.
“I think we will be able to do better than in 2024, that’s the objectiveanticipates Hamjatou Soukouna, central defender. The young people have a very good state of mind, they listen to their elders. It’s the state of mind that makes us win a lot of matches, that allows us to be strong at home.“
-Among the decisive new arrivals, there is notably the former Lille player Trevis Dago, on loan from LOSC and scorer in the previous match at Ajaccio. However, if FC Annecy, three points behind leader Lorient, is close to ensuring its maintenance in Ligue 2, the red and white club has spent two seasons fighting not to be relegated.
“We must not forget where we were a year agoconfesses Laurent Guyot, the Reds coach. We restarted the season well in terms of state of mind, and we had the chance to rely on players who have a common experience of the two seasons, a difficult common experience.”
The coach, at the helm for three years, embodies the success of the club. On the pitch, his decisions are relayed by experienced players, such as Ahmed Kashi, Yohan Demoncy or Vincent Pajot.
The recipe works on the pitch and is popular in the stands, as Philippe, a supporter, confirms: “What works well is stability. The club retains the backbone and also brings back some promising players. This year it’s excellent.“
And the players don’t want to get drunk either. “We remain realistic, we are FC Annecy, we do with our means, with our strengths, tempers Yohan Demoncy, midfielder. First of all, we want to maintain it, then why not aim for the top 5, we’ve been there for a while. And, why not, aim higher afterwards.”
