At the bottom of the hills which overlook the village ofArgences east of Caen (), it is the combined effects of the abundant rains of recent days, surface runoff and underground percolation which have caused a spectacular accumulation of water. In places, traffic is even dangerous, such as in the Ham du Fresne sector, to the north of the town.
A housing estate is particularly affected. That of Pré de la Motte (Rue de Morte Eau and Chemin du Puchot). This is the overflow of the Muance which is in question. There, an entire sector is completely underwater, and homes are invaded. One of them, inhabited by Mauricette Delaunay, 76, from Billy, is completely underwater.

His whole house is under water

“The whole house is flooded, on the ground floor, since the last rains,” she testifies. 10 centimeters of water everywhere! I had to cut off the electricity, and of course now nothing works anymore…”

Light, fridge, electric shutters, lighting… this resident is learning to do without.

I am in the dark, in the cold, and am going to take refuge with my son, who fortunately also lives in Argences!

Mauricette, a resident of Agences

“I left Billy two years ago to buy this house a stone’s throw from the town, to avoid floors and stairs… I redid everything to my liking, with a lot of work… and now everything has to be redone! »

How long does it take to find your home?

For example, all new glued laminated parquet flooring needs to be changed, “because it will swell and deform”. The electricity network will also need to be reviewed… “How long will it take before I can return to my house? », she asks.

Not only is the entire ground surface covered with a thickness of water requiring boots to move around, but it is a real current that crosses the house to exit through the main door…

In view of events of all kinds, particularly unusual precipitation, linked to climate disruption which seem to be increasing for some time, it seems that municipalities, like developers, will have to tackle this difficult problem head on…

Spectacular consequences

THE almost uninterrupted rain fallen for more than a week on the outskirts of the Pays d’Auge have spectacular consequences: overflowing of rivers and marshes, inaccessibility of agricultural land for several weeks, and above all significant flooding wherever the excess water overflows the natural capacity and flow devices.

This is therefore the case around Argences, in particular on the road which leads to Troarn.
