LA fires: the Lakers meeting

Finally, Tidjane Salaün and the Hornets will not set foot on the floor of the Crypto.com Arena this night to challenge the Lakers. ESPN explained that Californian leaders were in contact with the NBA and local authorities to find out if the meeting would be able to be held, because the metropolis of Los Angeles was ravaged by fires and, during the night, the Hollywood studios were even evacuated.

As expected, the NBA has therefore decided to postpone this match to a later date. On Wednesday evening, the NHL meeting between the Los Angeles Kings and the Calgary Flames, which was to take place in this same venue, had already been postponed.

“We are in communication with the Lakers and Hornets and continue to closely monitor the situation to determine if any scheduling adjustments are necessary as it relates to Thursday night’s game.” initially explained Mike Bass, the NBA spokesperson.

More than a thousand homes were destroyed by six separate fires in and around the city. Emergency services have already identified five victims and thousands of people have been evacuated, including many celebrities and their loved ones.

The most significant damage was recorded in the famous Pacific Palisades neighborhood, but violent gusts of wind sometimes carry the embers for kilometers, thus multiplying the outbreaks of fire.
