The fire affected this four-unit building located on Notre-Dame Street East, in the Cap-de-la-Madeleine sector. According to the owner, it was the occupant of the first floor apartment who came to inform him that his Christmas decorations had caught fire.
“I don’t know why the decorations caught fire. I saw smoke coming out and I said: ”It’s too late, we’re going out.” It wasn’t pretty. I saw the flames coming out behind.”

With a passerby, Mr. Morizot managed to get the dogs out of the tenant who lives in the accommodation behind his. This person was absent at the time of the fire. He was also able to find his dog safe and sound, he who did not seem in any way disturbed by what had just happened, unlike his owner who was very moved by the sight of his property being so damaged.

“There’s no more high, that’s for sure. There are all my things… I worked hard to have it,” Mr. Morizot recounted with difficulty, on the other hand relieved by the fact that his partner and the tenant on the first floor were also able to escape the blaze .
Fire contained in a building
Around 40 firefighters were called to the scene to fight the fire. They managed to contain the destructive element to this single building, which is happy news in the circumstances: this corner of Bas-du-Cap is full of buildings stuck on top of each other.
“There is no danger of spread to neighbors,” confirmed Carl Boulianne, division head of operations for the fire safety service of the City of Trois-Rivières, in an interview.
-According to Chief Boulianne, a lot of smoke was apparent when firefighters arrived.
“Quickly, the flames came out of the building,” he testified.
According to certain information circulating in the neighborhood Thursday morning, the lady who lived in the accommodation above that of Mr. Morizot and his partner had her face blackened by smoke when she left the premises. Chief Boulianne said that a person was treated by paramedics after being bothered by the smoke. His life did not appear to be in danger.
Hervé Morizot said he contacted the emergency services around 10:24 a.m. The owner estimated that around 30 minutes passed between his call and the arrival of the ladder truck, too long a delay, according to him.
“From the time people call to the truck arriving, to us it seems like five minutes and to them it’s 40 minutes. We are very much in perceptions at this time.”
