Relatives of Victor Shaw, 66, found his body Wednesday morning, but the coroner’s office was unable to recover it until the evening due to dangerous conditions in the area of the Eaton Fire.
“He was trying to save his parents’ house. They had it for 55 years,” Al Tanner, a family friend, told the American media.
-The victim’s younger sister, Shari Shaw, said she tried to convince him to evacuate the premises Tuesday evening, when the flames were approaching their residence.
“When I turned around and shouted his name, he didn’t respond. I had to get out because the embers were getting bigger and bigger and flying like a firestorm. I had to save my skin, I saw the house starting to burn,” she testified.
The Eaton Fire is one of four active fires in Los Angeles. It covers almost 43 square kilometers and authorities have not yet determined the cause.
