Duel of fear between the last two of the men’s Regional 2 championship. UO Pamiers has no other option than to win on the Frouzins floor (last and no victory this season) in order to avoid definitively hitting rock bottom.
Frouzins AC (12th; 0v-9d)- UO Pamiers (11th; 1v-8d); Saturday at 9 p.m., multipurpose gymnasium, in Frouzins.- What do the Frouzins Athletic Club and the Pamiers Olympic Union have in common? The two teams still faced each other in the high group, known as the rising group, less than two years ago. Since then, according to the established expression, water has flowed under the bridges and the two clubs are now playing for their survival in the second regional division. Overall, only one success in the championship can be credited to both teams, it is the work of Pamiers. It was last September and people were still wearing T-shirts. This shows the long famine of victory that these two clubs endured during the fall.
The Frouzinois’ best performance took place in the Coupe de Garonne. When the latter came, in mid-December, to win at… Pamiers (65-69). The Ariégeois were playing without some important elements of their squad but a victory remains a victory and the Toulouse suburbanites will leave with a slight advantage of confidence, motivated by the idea of gleaning their first success in the championship. Especially since it would allow them to leave last place in the standings and continue to hope.
On the Appamean side, the results are hardly more rosy. Since their great inaugural victory against Muret, the Yellows and Blacks have been accumulating setbacks, sometimes encouraging, sometimes worrying, but always with the same accounting impact: a trap leading to Regional 3 which is getting dangerously close. As a reminder, if no Nationale 3 team affiliated with the Ligue Occitanie returns to the Prenational at the end of the season, only one demotion will concern the group where the Ariège clubs play. By winning Frouzins, the UOP would take a nice step towards maintaining itself, still hypothetical of course; while getting closer to the antepenultimate place, held by the Gersois of Mas-d’Auvignon Saint-Puy who will be visiting La Rijole at the beginning of February.
The UOP is in an unfortunate position but can still save its season. This will inevitably lead to a much less gloomy start to 2025 than the previous vintage.
