Five times more interventions than during a normal day. The Eure firefighters had a lot of work this Wednesday, January 8, apart from bad weather. Sustained downpours have soaked the soil and caused several rivers to burst their banks. During the day, around fifty firefighters carried out forty-six operations linked to this bad weather. It was mainly about “protection of property and reconnaissance actions”especially in flooded basements.
The popular telephone switchboard
The operators of the telephone switchboard of the Eure departmental fire and rescue service were, quite logically, also very involved. The eleven agents assigned there had to deal with the volume of calls, swollen by the meteorological danger. Over a period of four hours in the afternoon, no fewer than 300 calls were handled.. Compared to a so-called period “classic”that’s about four times as much.
A mainly material assessment
By adding up the operations carried out to prevent the risk of flooding and the routine interventions by firefighters, the Sdis de l’Eure recorded exactly 99 interventions. Despite this large number of calls and interventions, no injuries reported. However, material damage was recorded. The risk of flooding was still relevant this Thursday, January 9, requiring the same caution.
