Negotiations are progressing, particularly on the subject of pensions. The number one of the CGT Sophie Binet asked the head of government François Bayrou on Wednesday evening to repeal the reform.
The First Secretary of the Socialist Party (PS) Olivier Faure indicated Thursday January 9, 2025 that negotiations concerning the development of the 2025 draft budget were progressing, after having been received again at the Ministry of the Economy the day before.
“We are now going into details gradually and we are moving forward on all the subjects, in particular on the budget and which must allow us to reach an agreement”, declared Olivier Faure at the microphone of TF1, specifying that the “discussion (was) extremely tense.”
The First Secretary of the PS was received on Wednesday January 8 in Bercy for a new round of consultations on the 2025 finance bill, just like the Ecologists and the French Communist Party (PCF) but not France Insoumise, which is also part of the New Popular Front (NFP).
“There is the desire expressed on both sides to reach an agreement”
“There is the desire expressed on both sides to reach an agreement. We are looking for ways to compromise. We will meet again, of course,” added Olivier Faure, warning of the installation of a “chronic instability” and conceding that “there has to be a budget at some point”.
On pension reform, a sticking point between the government and the left-wing oppositions, Olivier Faure suggested that his interlocutors at Bercy were opening the door to possible modifications.
“What I understood is that there is no (government) veto. […] There is a desire (to move) on everything, including age.”
Still as part of the consultations on the 2025 finance bill, the general secretary of the CGT Sophie Binet confirmed the government’s position on the subject of pensions, after being received on Wednesday in Matignon by Prime Minister François Bayrou.
Sophie Binet: François Bayrou “didn’t tell me no”
“When I told him that we had to block the immediate application of the pension reform […] he didn’t tell me no”, declared Sophie Binet, specifying that she was waiting for François Bayrou’s general policy speech to judge on the evidence.
Appointed on December 13, 2024 to Matignon, François Bayrou must deliver his general policy speech on January 14. La France insoumise, which was not invited to these consultations, has already announced its intention to table a motion of censure.
Eric Lombard must also receive the National Rally as part of these discussions but has already indicated that he does not intend to respond to the budgetary “red lines” set by the RN.
