This Wednesday, January 8, 2025, a meteorological disturbance led to significant amounts of rain in Ille-et-Vilaine. “They were added to the rains last weekend and led to a rise in water levels. According to the latest forecasts, these rains will resume on already saturated soils“, indicates the Prefecture in a press release.
The Cuttlefish and the Median Vilaine have been placed on Orange Flood Vigilance. In Guipry-Messac, the Vilaine has already emerged from its bed on January 8, 2025. Two people, a woman and her child, were evacuated from their home surrounded by water and three families are accommodated at the Hötel de la Gare.
“We are being told the same situation as in 2019″, worries Thierry Beaujouan, the mayor of the town, sadly accustomed to its floods. “We are still forecasting a rise in water levels of 20 or 30 centimeters during the day.”

On its website, the municipality invites citizens to exercise the greatest caution.

“Significant flooding is possible. Traffic conditions may be made difficult across the entire network and disruptions may affect rail transport” also informs the Prefecture. “Power outages may occur. Sea walls may be weakened or submerged. Underground areas, particularly underground parking lots, may be dangerous.”
In Pont-Réan, certain roads were closed to traffic. The town of Guichen has also activated its safeguard plan.
The department’s firefighters have been operating since yesterday in the Guipry-Messac, Pont-Réan and Chateaubourg sector.
Trains were canceled this morning due to weather conditions.
