If Elon Musk wants to go to Mars instead, his eyes nevertheless remain on the Earth’s satellite, the Moon. NASA plans to return to the site in 2026, thanks to the Artemis 3 mission.

This will be a first since 1972, which means that this feat is eagerly awaited. On site, the astronauts will nevertheless be invited to make samples, and perhaps they will be able to use… an excavator.

In any case, this is the wish of the Japanese manufacturer Komatsu, specialized in construction machinery. During CES 2025, the company unveiled an excavator specifically made for use on the Moon. It can therefore be remotely controlled, the astronaut does not need to be in a cabin, and operates on electricity.
