Doug Ford safe following collision

“The premier, staff and OPP officers who were in the vehicle with him are safe and sound,” said a spokesperson for the premier’s office, Grace Lee.

The driver of the other vehicle involved, however, reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries and is receiving medical treatment, his office said.

Doug Ford traveled to Courtice, an area about 80 kilometers east of Toronto, on Wednesday for a press conference.

The Prime Minister’s office told Le Droit that the incident occurred on Highway 401 westbound, upon his return from this press conference, while he was traveling towards Toronto.

He was back at the Ontario Legislative Assembly in downtown Toronto late in the afternoon.

“We were driving straight and, before we knew it, we were completely hit,” he said as he met reporters at Queen’s Park.

“I’m fine,” he assured, joking that his head is “hard as a rock.”

He also said the impact threw the other car across the highway. “It was serious,” nevertheless noted the Prime Minister.

Mr. Ford’s office referred any further media inquiries to the OPP.

The provincial police service had not yet responded to our questions at the time of publishing these lines.
