concern for Bentancur (Tottenham), taken out on a stretcher after ten minutes on the ground

The Uruguayan midfielder collapsed following a corner in favor of his team against Liverpool on Wednesday.

Tottenham’s Uruguayan midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur collapsed on the pitch at the very start of the match against Liverpool on Wednesday in the League Cup, leading trainers to come to his aid.

The 27-year-old threw himself at a corner to deflect the ball with his head but fell heavily to the ground, where he remained inert for several seconds, face down. One of his teammates, visibly distraught, called the trainers with great gestures. The medical team remained around the Uruguayan for almost ten minutes before evacuating him on a stretcher, to the applause of the spectators.

As he passed his trainer, Ange Postecoglou, he briefly raised a thumbs up in a gesture that was intended to be reassuring, noted a journalist from theAFP. Bentancur was already stretchered off during the first day of the English championship, in August at Leicester (1-1), after being injured in an aerial duel. The Uruguayan missed the next match before returning.
