CFE Energies on all fronts for the future of gas

After questioning the new Prime Minister on his energy choices, CFE Énergies mobilized at the High Energy Council and in the PPE debate to defend the future of the country’s gas infrastructure and therefore that of gas companies.

As energy joins Bercy to rhyme energy and industry, the Government must position itself on the country’s energy trajectory now that the public consultation on the multi-annual energy programming (PPE) has been completed. In mid-December, CFE Énergies questioned the Prime Minister on the importance of the carbon-free gas sector for a robust, balanced and resilient French energy model. She intervened within the Higher Energy Council (CSE) and during the consultation PPE by defending that:

Renewable gases and gas infrastructure are pillars of the country’s energy transition.

CFE Énergies therefore defended to the Prime Minister and the CSE that:

  • Renewable and low-carbon gases play a key role in the energy transition. The PPE must devote the acceleration of the development of these gasestaking full advantage of the potential of biomethane and second-generation gas technologies, and the State must provide the means to support this acceleration.
  • The PPE must be based on realistic and encouraging scenariosand not repressive, in terms of gas uses. The trajectory of eliminating boilers (350,000 per year) is not credible both technically and economically, because it is based on no impact analysis.
  • Faced with the weakening of the electricity system due to the growth of renewable electrical energies, the PPE must consider support and development of means of flexibility such as ultra-cutting-edge resources or carbon-free thermal production, including gas.
  • The energy transition is not just about electricity: gas infrastructure is an asset for decarbonization and sovereignty energy of the country.
  • The sustainability of gas infrastructures is important because beyond promoting the development of green and low carbon gases, it is a essential asset for the deployment of ’s low-carbon hydrogen strategy as well as the CCUS strategy (capture, transport, storage of CO2). The commitment of all gas companies is crucial to developing these solutions on a large scale and thus contributing to carbon neutrality objectives.

New Government or not, CFE Énergies continues its action to ensure the future of gas companies!
