Major fire at Ferland Park in Sept-Îles

Sudden awakening last night at Parc Ferland in the area of ​​rue des Marguerites-Blanches and des Genest in Sept-Îles, due to a major fire. Two residences were completely engulfed in flames.

It was at 3:38 a.m. that firefighters from the City of Sept-Îles Fire Department received the call for a building fire in a garage.

The fire spread to mobile homes. Two residences on rue des Marguerites-Blanches were completely destroyed. It is also a total loss for the garages of these two residences, but also for three others.

Two mobile homes on rue des Genets suffered significant damage to the exterior, but will be habitable, according to the director of Fire Safety, Joël Sauvé.

There were no injuries. Residents of around twenty homes were evacuated. Some people were taken care of by the Red Cross.

When the firefighters arrived, electricity load shedding for the entire Ferland park was requested, due to the flames. Everything was subsequently contained in the area of ​​the fire. Around thirty residences are still without power.

When questioned around 6:15 a.m., Joël Sauvé said that the firefighters finally had control of the situation, despite the strong winds that had been raging for hours. His teams will be on site for a good part of the morning. “There is a lot of smoke,” he said. The City of Sept-Îles Fire Safety had reinforcements from the IOC Brigade.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
