A departmental football match was interrupted on December 15, in Hérault, after racist insults.
On December 15, the Departmental 2 football match between US Villeveyrac and AS Celleneuve, in Hérault, was interrupted amid racist insults, as Midi Libre reported this Monday.
After a goal denied to the local club in the 30th minute, supporters then attacked the captain of the ASC, Kévin Salvador. “They called me a Kirikou, a kahlouche (black), and a dirty monkey,” the Martinican detailed daily. “This is the first time it’s gone this far. I’ve been insulted before but never to this extent. I can’t get rid of the moment when I was called a little monkey.”
complaints filed
In a statement, the local club denied the racist remarks. “US Villeveyrac and its leaders defend fundamental values such as living together, sharing and mutual respect,” we can read on social networks. We strongly condemn any form of discrimination, whether racist, homophobic, sexist, or otherwise, whether on a football pitch or in any other circumstance. We do not tolerate any behavior that goes against these principles and we are committed to actively combating such attitudes.”
Complaints were then filed with the Pézenas gendarmes. An investigation was opened with the Mèze brigade and the case is being investigated in the Hérault District.
A verdict is expected within “two to three weeks,” the District told the regional daily.
