Robin De Becker, police spokesperson, says that “around 10 a.m., an individual was arrested at rue de la Loi, 16. The man was allegedly in possession of a knife and made threats against the military personnel present“.
“A man with a knife tried to break into the building, he is under the control of the military police. The man was taken to the police station. Military police officers were not injured in the incident“, confirmed for his part Barend Leyts, director of communications for the resigning Prime Minister Alexander De Croo.
“The individual made threats against the military personnel present. The military police officers contained him while waiting for our police zone to continue their investigation. His motivations are unclear at this time.“, said the police.
Still through his communications manager Barend Leyts, the Prime Minister indicated that he was “shocked by the incident”. “We would like to expressly thank the military police officers who intervened. We are monitoring the situation closely with the police. We are relieved that no one was injured in the incident.” added Barend Leyts.
