LONDON: Apple dethroned Amazon as the world’s most valuable brand in 2024

The latest report looking at the world’s most valuable brands in 2024.

The year 2024 has been successful for some companies and brands, but several events, such as generative AI entering the mainstream, have had a widespread impact on certain industries. Brands have continued to place greater emphasis on sustainability, diversity and gender equality, which has helped improve their public image and brand equity.

The TradingPedia team’s study shows that technology companies, in particular, have significantly increased their brand value in 2024. Tech giants like Apple, Microsoft and Google, all investing heavily in new products like AI, have topped the list of most valuable brandsovertaking online retailer Amazon. US iPhone maker Apple dethroned Amazon from the top spot after its brand value jumped 73.6% from 2023 to reach $516.58 billion in 2024.

Here are some key findings from the report:

  • With an estimated value of $516.58 billion, Apple Inc. was the most valuable technology brand of 2024 and the number one global brand overall, surpassing the previous leader, Amazon. This is a significant increase of 73.6% from the previous year, when its value was $297.51 billion.
  • Microsoft ranks second with a brand value of $340.44 billion. The PC maker, which also recently unveiled its first custom AI chip for the Azure platform, the Maia 100 AI Accelerator, saw its brand value increase by 77.7% compared to 2023.
  • Google takes third positionwith a brand valued at $333.44 billion, up 18.5% from 2023.
  • Although Amazon saw its brand valued at $308.9 billion in 2024up 3.2% compared to 2023, it was overtaken by Apple, Microsoft and Google. It is today the 4th most valuable technology brand in the world.
  • American brands dominate the global landscape : American brands represent 52.76% of the world’s top 500 brands, 52% of the top 100 and 60% of the world’s top 10 most valuable brands.
  • Europe : The top brands in Europe are Germany’s Deutsche Telekom with $73.321 billion, Mercedes-Benz with $59.436 billion, British oil giant Shell with $50.302 billion, French fashion company Louis Vuitton with $32.235 billion , the Spanish bank Santander with 18.908 billion dollars and the Italian #1 Gucci with 14.864 billion dollars.
  • Technology and retail lead in brand value : Technology brands account for 17.04% of the total brand value among the top 500 companies, while retail brands contribute 11.75%.
