On January 7, 2015, the editorial staff of the satirical newspaper Charlie Hebdo was the victim of a terrorist attack. A drama which moved millions of French people, committed to tolerance. Ten years later, what remains of this Charlie spirit which advocates living together?

On January 11, 2015, just a few days after the attack on Charlie Hebdo, more than four million people took to the streets with a message: no to terrorism, yes to tolerance and living together. “We were all united, all friends. It’s crazy that ten years later, we see the divide in the country”says a participant in the Charlie protests.

Another symbolic image emerges from this moment of national communion: an embrace between a retired pastry chef and a CRS. The two men have since become friends. But ten years later, they retain the bitter taste of a moment that did not last. “Five days later, there were demonstrations, protests… It only lasted a week”explains Steve, the CRS. A week during which the crowd gathered behind the slogan “Je suis Charlie”, invited the world to the start of a nation.
