Israel said Monday that Hamas knew “precisely” which hostages among the 34 held in the Gaza Strip were dead or alive, adding that it had not been informed of the state of health of the latter. During the weekend, the Palestinian movement said it was ready to release them in the first phase of a possible agreement.
Israel affirmed, Monday, January 6, that Hamas knew “precisely” who was dead or alive among the 34 hostages held captive in Gaza that the Palestinian movement said it was ready to release as part of a possible agreement.
“They know precisely who is alive and who is dead,” Israeli government spokesman David Mencer said. “They know exactly where the hostages are. Gaza is not very big.”
A Hamas official told AFP that the Islamist group had “agreed to release 34 Israeli prisoners from a list provided by Israel in the first phase of a prisoner exchange deal.”
This list, he specified, includes “all women, the sick, children and the elderly” among the Israeli hostages.
-He also told AFP that the Islamist group needed “about a week of calm” to communicate with the various kidnappers of the hostages and “identify the dead or the alive”.
