For weeks, Mr. Trudeau, who had been Prime Minister since November 2015, had felt the breath of several of his deputies asking him to calm down for the health of the minority Liberal Party of Canada (PLC). Politics in the country are very tumultuous, and this indicates that it is not in the fundamental interests of the PLC for the rag to burn a few months before the elections. Especially since the Conservative Party is receiving more and more voting intentions.
It must be said that the Conservative Party of Canada has more than once, in recent months, presented a motion of censure against Justin Trudeau, and another is planned. On January 7, the Public Accounts Committee met to examine this other motion of censure filed against the government which can no longer count on the support of the NDP of Jagmeet Singh who publicly, on December 20, requested the resignation of Justin Trudeau. He also aligns himself with the Bloc Québécois and the Conservatives, emphasizing that he is ready to bring down Mr. Trudeau.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister has asked Governor General Mary Simons to prorogue Parliament until March 24, thereby adjourning the activities of the House of Commons until that date. This would allow the PLC to surround itself with a new leader.
What prompted Justin Trudeau to make this statement on January 6? The moment of Chrystia Freeland’s resignation, who had governed finances for four years? She may be on the list for the party’s leadership race, just like former Bank of Canada Governor Mark Carney.
