Météo-France had placed Côte-d’Or on orange snow and ice alert on Saturday January 4. At the end of the day, the department was indeed the scene of freezing rain which disrupted traffic on many roads. As recalled Côte-d’Or Newspublic transport had been suspended in Dijon and the prefecture had prohibited access for heavy goods vehicles to the A31, the A36, the A39, the A6, the A38 and the M274, while calling on motorists with the greatest caution.
Despite these precautions, state services recorded 51 material accidents, 16 bodily accidents with 36 injuries, including 13 on highways alone, list France 3 Burgundy. Among these incidents, we note the death of a 20-year-old young man on the A6, near the Merceuil rest area, at the end of the day. Amelle Ghayou-Migeon, sub-prefect of Côte-d’Or, specifies francetvinfo that this accident which occurred south of Beaune involved three vehicles.
Four injured in collision
“According to the first information we have, it is linked to weather conditions,” she said. One motorist therefore did not survive while four others were injured: a 26-year-old woman, a 6-year-old child and two 36-year-old men. They were treated by emergency services and taken to hospital. This accident caused several kilometers of traffic jams.
The situation was restored late in the night from Saturday to Sunday, with a clear mild spell a few hours later in the department.
