Ukraine is betting on a new incursion into the Russian region of Kursk

Ukraine launched a second offensive in the Russian region of Kursk on Sunday. If this operation has not been officially confirmed by kyiv, its triggering can meet several objectives: to restore momentum to the country after significant Russian advances and to place Ukraine in the best possible situation before the return to power of Donald Trump.

Again. Ukraine began, Sunday January 5, . It comes almost six months after the first operation which allowed the Ukrainian army to occupy more than 1,000 km² and hundreds of villages in Russian territory.

Since then, Russian forces – supported by North Korean contingents and Chechen soldiers – have managed to recapture almost half of the initially lost territory.

“Good news from Kursk”

kyiv therefore seems determined to set out again to conquer part of this border region with the Ukrainian oblast of Sumy. “It is impossible to say at the moment how many troops have been mobilized by Ukraine for this offensive, because there is no official communication from kyiv, but it seems that it is a rather large offensive” , notes Huseyn Aliyev, specialist in the war in Ukraine at the University of Glasgow.
