Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced his resignation on Monday but indicated that he would remain in power until his party appoints a successor.
“I intend to resign from my position as party leader and prime minister once the party has chosen its next leader,” he declared in the capital, Ottawa, to the press.
Nearly ten years after coming to power, Justin Trudeau, 53, had been under pressure for weeks as legislative elections loomed and his party was at its lowest in the polls.
