In an interview with presenter Hugh Hewitt, Donald Trump once again toughened his tone regarding the hostages held in Gaza. The US president-elect reiterated his warning to Hamas, promising that “it will be hell” if the hostages are not freed before his inauguration on January 20.
“I don’t need to go into detail… But it’s not going to be just a ‘don’t do that,’” he said, referring to Joe Biden’s October 10, 2023 speech after Hamas attacks. Trump insists: “These hostages need to get out, they need to get out now.”
This firm position is nevertheless accompanied by a diplomatic openness. “I am with Israel, that is obvious to everyone,” said the former president, before adding: “But I must also say that I am for peace. It is time. This conflict has lasted too long. a long time.”
The statements mark a notable difference from the Biden administration’s approach, with Trump suggesting a more aggressive response if negotiations for the release of the hostages fail.
