In Tetouan, a forest was devastated by flames

In the middle of winter, a fire ravaged the forests of the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region. Known for its dense forest cover, the forest in question, far from being subject to fire threat, was struck by fire under unexpected conditions.

This situation has sparked a wave of questions about the causes that led to the flames igniting in the middle of winter, a period when temperatures are generally low in this region.

Activists shared videos and photos on their social media pages showing flames rising in the forest of “ Mouktala“, located in the commune of Azla-Zaitoune, in the province of Tetouan. The wind speed contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.

Saïd Benjira, regional director of Water and Forests and the Fight against Desertification (TOWNSHIP) in the Tangier-Tétouan-Al Hoceïma region, confirmed that rescue teams intervened to extinguish the fire, which broke out last night, and managed, around five a.m. this Monday, to bring it under control .

He explained that “stakeholders from Water and Forests, Civil Protection, the Royal Gendarmerie and local authorities were mobilized. Everyone mobilized and, thank God, the fire was brought under control around five in the morning “.
