The start of the school year scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2025 risks being disrupted in Tunisia. The national coordination of substitute teachers announced an indefinite strike, accompanied by a total boycott, to protest against the non-payment of their financial rights and the non-application of decrees relating to their professional regularization.

In a statement made this Sunday on national radio, Imad Abdelkebirnational coordinator of substitute teachers, expressed deep anger at the situation.

Despite signing their contracts, these teachers have not received their salaries or financial rights since the start of the school year. Abdelkebir also denounced the lack of progress concerning the implementation of decrees supposed to regularize their status.

Debts still outstanding

The national coordinator stressed that the Ministry of Education remains indebted to substitute teachers, accumulating financial claims not honored. This situation, which has lasted for months, plunges teachers into increasing precariousness, making their professional commitment increasingly difficult.
