Luis Díaz ready to face Manchester United in the Premier League

Luis Díaz is preparing for a special clash today in the English classic: his team, Liverpool, will host Manchester United at Anfield, with kick-off scheduled for 11:30 a.m. in Matchday 20.

In this red rivalry, the hosts enter as Premier League leaders with 45 points (and two games in hand), while the visitors are having a tough time, sitting 14th in the standings.

“For me, I said it before the first game, and I can say it again, they have players who are, in my opinion, much better than what the rankings could show right now,” commented Arne Slot, the Liverpool manager.

“Maybe Ruben Amorim (the new Manchester United coach) will take a little time to bring out the best in his players, I don’t know, but they will definitely improve, and they are good, good, good better than what the rankings show at this time.

Colombian striker Díaz will look to extend his streak of goals against United, one of his favorite teams to face: he has already scored four goals against the ‘Red Devils’ during his career.

This match also presents an opportunity for Guajiro to break his personal record for goals scored in a Premier League season, as he currently has eight goals, matching his tally from the 2023-24 campaign.

In their last meeting, last September at Old Trafford, Liverpool triumphed with a convincing 3-0 victory, including a brace from Díaz.

“Every game is important when you play for this club, but of course a game at Anfield against United has special meaning for the fans. We understand this rivalry and know that there will be a special atmosphere, which we will try to use to our advantage to get the three points,” said defender Virgil Van Dijk.

Furthermore, Colombian players Daniel Muñoz and Jefferson Lerma were present on the field during the entire match where Crystal Palace drew 1-1 with Chelsea, remaining in 15th position in the standings.

Manchester City appeared to have turned a new leaf, bouncing back with a 4-1 win over West Ham, with Norwegian striker Erling Haaland scoring twice, taking their tally to 34 points and moving into sixth place.

Newcastle caused a surprise in London, overcoming Tottenham 2-1 to secure a place in the Europa League places (fifth with 35 points).

Brentford inflicted the spanking of the day with a 5-0 away victory against Southampton; Aston Villa (without the suspended Jhon Jader Durán) secured a 2-1 home win over Leicester, while Bournemouth beat Everton.

Liverpool’s closest rivals Arsenal squandered a chance to narrow the gap, drawing 1-1 with Brighton. They now see the ‘Reds’ five points ahead, a gap which could reach eleven if Slot’s side win their two late matches.

In addition to the Liverpool vs. United, today’s matches also include Fulham v Ipswich at 9:00.
