This Sunday, RC Lens hosted TFC for the 16th day of Ligue 1. Dominant from the start, the RCL once again paid for its offensive shortcomings, and conceded the opener from the penalty spot in the 73rd minute. The expulsion of David Pereira da Costa a few minutes earlier didn’t help anything, and Lens made the wrong move of the weekend.
COFFEE (6)
New number 1 until further notice, the Lensois goalkeeper made the stands jump when he stopped face to face with Aboukhlal (17th), then by relaxing to fend off a Toulouse recovery (18th). Author of 3 saves in total, he was trapped on Aboukhlal’s penalty, but deprived Toulouse of the break by repelling a rebound from Gboho at close range (79th). His name was chanted by Bollaert-Delelis, but without the 3 points at the end…
FRANKOWSKI (5)
Several Toulouse offensives passed on his side, but the Pole did not hesitate to go very high to provide offensive solutions, like on his good shot in the middle, diverted by Restes (23rd). The only shot on target of the match… Many crosses delivered (9), without managing to hit the mark.
DANCE (5)
Less prominent than Malang Sarr, the Austrian still held the house, but could have feared a red card after a nice sole on Suazo (31st).
SARR (6)
Preferred over Jonathan Gradit in central defense, the former Chelsea player had not started since November 23. With 10 defensive actions to his credit, he was the Lensois who stood out the most in this area, like his speed to counter a point-blank strike from Aboukhlal (40th). An impeccable match, until the 72nd minute and his foul on Aboukhlal, who opened the scoring from the penalty spot.
MACHADO (4)
The left lane generally functioned poorly this afternoon, and the Machado-Zaroury connection was not ideal. The Colombian was quite discreet, and gave up his place in the 75th, for the entry of Jhoanner Chavez, injured in the ankle and evacuated on a stretcher in the 89th. Another big blow for Lens. The young Kembo Diliwidi then returned, and missed the final opportunity to equalize.
SOTOCA (4)
Moving on his right side, the Lensois captain multiplied the crosses and deep passes, but with a lot of waste. His powerful blocked shot would have deserved better (57th). Replaced by the young Gabin Capuano in the 80th.
THOMASSON (6)
The Lensois midfielder often found himself in the area in a good position, but had to face the good Toulouse block. Indispensable in the midfield, he once again showed boundless activity.
DIOUF (4)
Some Toulouse counterattacks came after his ball losses, and he was happy not to give TFC a penalty after a borderline intervention on Sidibé in the area (34th). His two long shots missed.
ZAROURY (3)
Apart from a very nice cross from the outside of the foot at the start of the match, the winger never managed to make a big difference on his side. That’s why Will Still took him out at half-time, for the entry of David Pereira da Costa, who came off after… 15 minutes, after a red card received for a sole on Sidibé. Quite severe and sad, on his 24th birthday.
LIGHTS (3)
His set pieces did nothing, and his offensive contribution is still far too weak. With Nzola, Sotoca, or even Zaroury at his side, none did well. Replaced in the 80th minute by Hamzat Ojediran.
ROAD (4)
The Angolan striker had several situations, but never managed to hit the mark (3 shots off target, 1 blocked). Often blocked by the Toulouse defense, he had a rather frustrating match, being the only capable striker in the squad.
