The Chicago Bulls are preparing to pay tribute to their former iconic leader, Derrick Rose. The franchise will retire its number 1 jersey during the 2025-26 season, a consecration for the youngest MVP in NBA history.
Derrick Rose, drafted by the Bulls in 2008, is an essential figure in the recent history of the franchise. Originally from Chicago, he carried the hopes of an entire city after the Michael Jordan era. Rookie of the year in 2009 and three times All-Star (2010-2012), he reached the peak of his career in 2011, becoming the youngest player (22 years old) to win the MVP title. That same season, he led the Bulls to the Eastern Conference finals, where they lost to the Miami Heat of the Big Three (4-1).
Unfortunately, Rose’s career was marred by a series of serious injuries. The most notable came in 2012, with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee, which cost him the entire following season. Despite attempts at a comeback, he never regained the explosiveness and dominance that made him a phenomenon. In the Bulls jersey, he posted impressive averages: 19.7 points and 6.2 assists per game in seven seasons.
After leaving Chicago, Rose had stints in New York, Cleveland, Minnesota, Detroit and Memphis, before announcing his retirement in September 2024.
