Carragher’s Liverpool ambition gains momentum as transfer deal is agreed

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher is closely monitoring a potential January move to the Reds, with significant news surrounding Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez.

Kerkez has been a standout player since moving from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar to Bournemouth in 2023. Recent reports suggest that Liverpool are among several clubs keen to secure his services, a move Carragher fully supports.

It appears Bournemouth are preparing for the left-back’s possible departure, with reports saying they have reached an agreement for a €15m (£12.45m) transfer to sign Julio Soler from Argentinian Lanus team. This development could clear the way for Kerkez, and Carragher believes Liverpool could have an advantage over their competitors, mainly because their new sporting director, Richard Hughes, played a key role in signing the young talent for Bournemouth.

On Sky Sports’ Monday Night show, Carragher said: “We discussed the need for Liverpool to strengthen their left-back position and the need for Andy Robertson to have adequate support. Kerkez has been a revelation at Bournemouth. The Liverpool connection becomes all the more relevant because Hughes, who brought him to Bournemouth, is now at Liverpool.”

He also praised Kerkez’s qualities, saying: “He is aggressive, has great speed and definitely has the physique of a full-back. Since arriving in the Premier League he has been exceptional, and it will be interesting to see how his future will unfold regarding a possible transfer or if he decides to stay.”

During a recent interview with the Guardian, Kerkez expressed confidence in his ability to thrive at the highest level, saying: “I am convinced that I can succeed at the highest level of football… I want to create a even bigger legacy We’re making progress, but we’re not even halfway through the season – everything can change in the space of two matches in the Premier League.”

Bournemouth reportedly value Kerkez at around £40 million, and the talented full-back has three and a half years left on his contract.
