Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou has insisted he has no hard feelings towards James Maddison for attending the PDC World Darts Championship just hours after the midfielder was left out of the XI starting in a 2–2 home draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers due to suspected illness.
Maddison, who came on as a 64th-minute substitute against Wolves on Sunday, was spotted alongside Spurs team-mate Brennan Johnson during the Round of 32 match between Luke Humphries and Peter Wright at Alexandra Palace, in north London.
In a season marred by injuries, Tottenham managed to secure a draw thanks to goals from Rodrigo Bentancur and Johnson, leaving them in 11th place with 24 points after 19 matches, their first finish of the year below from seventh place since the 2008-09 season.

“I have no problem with players having a life,” Postecoglou told reporters ahead of Saturday’s home game against fifth-placed Newcastle United. “It’s a lot different trying to play a football match than it is to live your life. I don’t see any problem with that, and I don’t think it harmed him. He wasn’t 100% and it “It was a game where we needed someone who was 100%. If he had been in bed he wouldn’t have come for the game and then gone to darts, it would have been a different matter.”
