Berlin wants to help Syria become “a functional state again, with total control over its territory”

She asks the new Syrian power to make “a place in the political process” for “all Syrians, whatever their ethnic or religious group”, and not to compromise it by “excessively long delays until the elections or by measures aimed at Islamizing the justice system or the education system.”

She also urges Damascus to avoid “acts of revenge against entire population groups” and to put aside “extremism and radical groups”.

French Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and Annalena Baerbock are to meet jointly with the new Syrian leader Ahmad al-Chareh, as well as “representatives of Syrian civil society”, specifies the ministry in the press release.
