WHAT BECAME OF THE PRESENTERS OF THE 2000S
Was it better back then? A question that Vincent Lagaf could legitimately have asked for the new edition of the bigdil. Indeed, the flagship show of the late 90s and early 2000s, made its big return to the small screen this Thursday, January 2in prime time on the channel RMC Storyafter 20 years of stopping. Around thirty numbers await loyal viewers of the show. And if everything has been designed to bring them nostalgia with the same setting, the same trials, the same credits and the return of the alien Bil, a certain difference concerns the salary of the 65-year-old animator.
“We heard about this return on C8, on TF1… But the only one that broadcast old issues of bigdil to see what this would give, it’s Stéphane Sallé de Chou (the boss of RMC Story and RMC Découverte, editor’s note). He saw that it had been a hit and they called me to ask me if I wanted to do it again. The Bigdil“, he explained to Leisure TV. Very happy to resume his show, Vincent Lagaf wanted everything to be perfect: “I wanted the format to return to its original configuration. It was a sine qua non condition“, he confided to the Parisian.
60% less budget
Everything seemed perfect for the return of bigdilbut he had to do with a notable difference in budget. “We no longer have 50,000 euros of gifts per day, even if, thanks to the partners, we have beautiful windows (…) We are doing the same show, but with 60% less budget“, he declared before continuing on his salary, “I am also paid seven times less“But if the budget doesn’t follow, what does it matter? Vincent Lagaf, who didn’t have an easy start to life, doesn’t hide having taken over the reins of the show.”for the fun“.
However, the host did not fail to attempt a salary negotiation with RMCas he revealed last December on RTL. “They started by offering me a fee, I said ‘wait, is that Vincent Lagaf’ that you’re talking to on the phone? You don’t ask for a room attendant, you ask for a facilitator!“, he did not fail to declare before adding that he still managed to improve this stamp, “So she said, ‘Excuse me, but I have to try.’ I said ‘yes, so there you go. Now we’re talking about serious things. What is your budget? I take so much“.
-A strategic return for RMC
If this return has sparked real enthusiasm, it is not insignificant that it is happening on a channel like RMC Story. By choosing to resurrect The Bigdilthe channel has focused on a cult program, capable of attracting a nostalgic audience, but also of winning over a new generation of viewers curious to discover this legendary show. For Vincent Lagaf, this exercise is also akin to calculated risk-taking. Despite much lower remuneration than what he previously received, the host remains attached to this format which he considers to be emblematic of his career.
This return allows him to reconnect with his audience while meeting the challenge of adapting a historical program to modern television production constraints. Ultimately, The Bigdil version 2025 marks a new page in the history of French television. Between tight budget, technical challenges and public expectations, this resurrection also symbolizes the importance of television heritage in an era where nostalgia remains a powerful audience vector.
