On the Champs-Élysées, Fnac sells off its items before closing

After the departure of the Disney Store in 2023, followed by the closures of Gaumont Marignan, H&M and Pizza Pino, the Champs-Élysées are losing a new piece of their commercial history. This time, it is Fnac, established since 1997 at number 74 on the avenue, which is preparing to bow out.

A final reprieve, but no miracle

Initially scheduled for December 18, 2024, the closure was postponed by one month, allowing the Fnac Darty group brand to capitalize on end-of-year sales. But the cultural boutique, in chronic deficit, has not managed to reverse the trend. The curtain will therefore definitively fall on January 12, 2025, reveal West et Le Figaro. This closure marks a new stage in the erosion of the emblematic businesses of the “most beautiful avenue in the world ».

However, from 2017, the managers of Fnac Champs-Élysées had focused on connected products, in the hope of slowing down the predicted fall of the store. But the strategy only postponed the inevitable.

And, 7 years later, the company told ActuaLitté to undergo a “falling turnover, due to frequent use of the area by the brand's natural clientele which has been decreasing for several years”, coupled with exorbitantly priced rents.

Result: the economic viability of Fnac des Champs is no longer assured, and the brand is forced to close its doors. The 89 employees of the site will be reclassified on a “identical position to the one held, under the same salary conditions» in the other stores in (Ternes, Saint-Lazare, Forum des Halles, Montparnasse, Beaugrenelle), is in charge.

Total liquidation, except for books

To limit damage, Fnac des Champs-Élysées is launching a clearance operation from this Friday, January 3, until the final closure on January 12. The key: reductions of up to 80% on electronics and household appliances, even if books remain of course excluded from the offer due to the law on the single price of books.

This Friday morning, the queues are getting longer in front of number 74 avenue. On social networks, Internet users share photos of the crowd, some customers claiming to have waited “since 7 a.m.“. A rush to take advantage of the slashed prices, and why not, sell the gift certificates slipped under the tree at Christmas.
