Major fire in a building in the Pyrénées-Orientales leaves three injured

Last night; on Thursday January 3, 2025, around 10 p.m., a virulent fire occurred in a R+2 building in the Pyrénées-Orientales. The flames, which started from an apartment, quickly reached the roof, causing significant damage.

Rapid evacuation of residents
Firefighters from the Boulou, Céret and Vallespir emergency centers intervened quickly. Thanks to their responsiveness, all occupants were able to be evacuated safely. An elderly person and a child, bothered by the fumes, were transported to the hospital center. The latter's mother, injured in the hands and feet by burns, was also treated.

A weakened building
Part of the structure of the building collapsed under the violence of the fire. The rest of the building, weakened, presents a risk of collapse. A specialized team was dispatched to the site to assess the situation and secure the area.

Firefighters still on site
Firefighters worked through the night to extinguish hot spots and prevent spread to nearby homes.
