Murder against a backdrop of class struggles

Commissioner Bornec is responsible for solving the murder which seems to mysteriously intertwine with the social and industrial issues of the time. Gabriel Funel, journalist at L'Humanité, is carrying out his investigation into the working conditions of metallurgists.

As the two men progress in their investigations, they are joined by Camille Dubois, a young woman passionate about photography. Just emancipated from her working-class condition, Camille managed to land a job at the newspaper.

Far from being limited to a simple criminal investigation, this meeting between the three protagonists takes place in a where social struggles, the rise of the Popular Front and technological progress shape a bustling daily life.

In Street of Hope, 1935Alexandre Courban delivers the second part of his historical and detective series on the Popular Front. Drawing on in-depth research on aeronautics and photography, it immerses us in the technological advances and social upheavals of the interwar period.

Alexandre Courban, born in 1971, grew up in a small village in Ardèche. After a baccalaureate and history studies at the University of Paris, he defended a thesis on Humanity from 1904 to 1939. Street of Hope, 1935 is his second novel.

In parallel with his work as a cultural programmer for a works council, since 2020 he has been a district councilor and delegate for memory and heritage in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.
