Quebec forward Zachary L’Heureux received a three-game suspension from the National Hockey League (NHL) Department of Player Safety for dangerously tripping an opponent.
The Nashville Predators player was ejected from Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Wild in the second period following avoidable contact with defenseman Jared Spurgeon.

“In this case, L’Heureux makes legal upper body contact with Spurgeon, but then he raises his arm and positions his foot in a way that renders Spurgeon defenseless,” the Department of Security explained in an explanatory video.
-This situation was also considered more dangerous due to the speed of the game and the proximity to the bay window. Spurgeon’s legs actually hit the tape head-on, causing him an injury.
The Wild said Thursday that the 35-year-old veteran’s injury was not as severe as expected, but that he is expected to miss several games. His state of health will be reassessed weekly.
In his first season in the NHL, L’Heureux had nine points in 33 games. The 21-year-old Montrealer was a first-round pick of the Predators in the 2021 draft.
