If Luca de Meo spent a large part of his year fighting against the European Union and its CAFE standards forcing manufacturers to sell more electric vehicles, the Italian also found the time to manage his group with seriousness and rigor .
Thus, the Losange finished at the top of sales thanks to the Renault brand, which sold 277,297 vehicles, only 617 fewer than in 2023. This tiny drop (-0.2%) allows Renault to get ahead of Peugeot and its 232,714 registrations. Despite a loss of 3.64%, Lion clearly remains the second largest force in the country.
Toyota, Porsche and BYD are doing a great job
Third place on the podium goes to Dacia, which confirms the good year for the Renault group. The Romanian manufacturer, however, recorded a drop of 7% in its sales, but managed to maintain a comfortable margin over Toyota (+7.42%), author of a successful year thanks to its range of hybrids, and Volkswagen (-0 .72%), both of which double Citroën, whose sales collapsed by 11%.
Within Stellantis, the strong brands are all struggling. Besides Citroën, Peugeot (-3%), Opel (-7%), DS (-23%) and Fiat (-19%) are in the red compared to their 2023 figures, which is not enough to be compensated by the progressions of Alfa Romeo (+12%), Abarth (+57%) and Jeep (+58%).
For the rest, the most impressive development goes to BYD, which jumped 941% by selling 5,415 vehicles compared to 1,787 last year. Within the Volkswagen group, whose sales increased by 5% despite its major financial problems, the good point goes to Porsche, whose registrations jumped by 87% this year. The Stuttgart brand is making the most progress among European manufacturers.
