Start of gas production off the coast of Senegal and Mauritania – ECONOMY

The British company British Petrolum (BP) announced Thursday that it had started producing gas from the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) liquefied natural gas (LNG) well project, located off the coast of Mauritania and Senegal.

The day before, the Energy Ministers of the two countries had officially opened the first well of the Grand Tortue Ahmeyim project. Phase one of GTA is expected to produce approximately 2.3 million tonnes of LNG per year.

According to BP, it marks “an important step” towards realizing the potential of the gas resources of Mauritania and Senegal, with the possibility for the two countries to become a major center of liquefied natural gas production.
