Aurora borealis and company for New Year's Day

The first evening of the year was rich in observations: the crescent Moon, an aurora borealis and the emergence of a satellite of Jupiter.

Various shows:

The last Northern Lights that I photographed was on October 10 (can be found here). The show was renewed on the first evening of this new year:

I took the shot above by posing for 15 seconds at ISO 3200 with a Nikon D7100 body and a 50 millimeter focal length lens open to 4. In this year of maximum solar activity, it is once again the The arrival of a powerful coronal mass ejection which colored the Beaujolais sky. The evening began with the hunt for the thin crescent Moon, armed with my Panasonic FZ 82 camera on a tripod:

After the Northern Lights, I took advantage of a clear sky to point Jupiter with the Celestron 6XLT telescope with its binocular head:

Shortly after 10 p.m., Europa emerged from the shadow of the giant gas planet. An astonishing spectacle to see this satellite gradually “relight” in a few minutes:

You will find the list of upcoming celestial shows in the January ephemeris. Hoping for clear skies so we can admire them!
