A diocesan justice and peace commission is created

Two major announcements were made by Mgr Durhône yesterday.

The Diocesan Justice and Peace Commission was officially inaugurated yesterday at the Church of Ste-. The Bishop of Port-Louis, Mgr Jean Michaël Durhône, presented the committed lay people designated by the Church to sit on this commission supported by Father Georgy Kenny. During his homily, Mgr Durhône stressed the need for transformations to approach this new year with serenity. “To live in peace, it is imperative to prevent communalism from dividing Mauritian society.” He also denounced the different forms of violence, whether physical or directed against the environment, while inviting us to adopt a more benevolent view towards migrants, not to stir up hatred on social networks and not to abandon young people failing at school. “When a blood infusion is given to a patient, no one cares about the community that blood comes from.” The bishop also announced a large gathering in June to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the monument of Mary Queen of Peace, which will coincide with the feast of Pentecost.
