While the Russian army’s efforts seem to be concentrated around Pokrovsk, in the Donetsk oblast, the spokesperson for the “Khortytsia” operational group, Viktor Trehoubov, explained, on the airwaves of the national “telethon” – and whose words are reported by the media Ukrainian Pravda –, that the Russians were not seeking to launch a frontal assault, but rather to encircle the city.
“There is no urban fighting in the city, the Russians have not reached the limits of the city, but they are trying to take it through neighboring towns, infiltrate a group, accumulate and continue fighting in this way in order to bypass the city. The use of drones, [et] of everything that Russians have, is concentrated in the area of the city of Pokrovsk »detailed Mr. Trehoubov.
According to him, Pokrovsk is large and fortified enough that the Russian army will not attempt a frontal assault, especially since it is already engaged in street fighting in many other localities on the front. Over the past twenty-four hours, the Ukrainian army has repelled thirty-eight Russian attacks in the direction of Pokrovsk, the spokesperson also confirmed.
The strategy shared by Viktor Trehoubov can be seen on our map of the progress of the fighting in Ukraine. It can be consulted at any time in the “Context” tab of this live, and clickable to display it in large size.
